PATNA: The BJP launched a broadside on Thursday against senior IPS officer and Chief Superintendent of Patna Police Manavjit Singh Dhillon for allegedly comparing the extremist People’s Front of India (PFI) with the RSS, the party’s ideological mentor.

During a presser called for the arrest of three suspects linked to terrorist groups at Phulwarisharif in Patna, Dhillon said on Thursday: “Like the RSS shakhas where physical training is given, the terrorist organization was spreading its program among the youth in the name of physical training.”

The remark snowballed into controversy as Bihar ADGP (Headquarters) Jitendra Singh Gangwar later came out with a clarification on behalf of the state police. He said the SSP’s statement was unwarranted and that the matter would be checked. The SSP should focus solely on the investigation, he added.

A show cause notice was also sent to the SSP for their remark, asking them to respond within 48 hours.
Bihar BJP spokesman Arvind Singh said. “The statement by the SSP is highly condemnable. An officer with such a mindset should not continue as SSP of Patna,” the spokesperson said.

“The RSS is a nationalist organization. The government should take tough action against the SSP. On the other hand, BJP ally Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) spokesman, Danish Rizwan defended the SSP statement, saying there was nothing wrong with it.
