Sangrur MP and Aam Aadmi Punjab party chairman Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday criticized Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress over the resignation of IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap.

Holding a press conference in Patiala, Mann alleged that the resignation of IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh was the result of the congressional and SAD melee.

The party, however, failed to maintain appropriate social distancing during the event held in a closed venue where journalists and party workers had to fight for space.

Mann said the IPS officer was leading an SIT in a shooting incident in Kotkapura in connection with the 2015 Bargari sacrilege incident whose investigation report was dismissed by the Punjab High Court and the Haryana.

He said, “The state government deliberately formed a team of lawyers to lose cases,” and added that the state government should have called for the resignation of the Punjab Attorney General when the report of the officer was rejected by the court.

He said Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal were converging.

“After years of delay in delivering justice, the state government has decided to take the matter to the Supreme Court, which will take several more years to process.”

He said the SIT investigation report would fall into the public domain as presented to the court and added: “If we come to power in the next election, we will take action based on the report.
